Panchapuri Museum stands as a sentinel of time in Bidyapur, Surkhet — safeguarding the artifacts and stories of the Karnali region.
Established in 1992, Panchapuri Museum was founded with the vision of preserving and celebrating the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Surkhet Valley and the greater Karnali region of Nepal. Located in the historically significant town of Bidyapur, the museum was born from the collective effort of local scholars, community leaders, and heritage enthusiasts.
The museum houses over 500 artifacts spanning thousands of years of human civilization — from the ancient Khas kingdoms and Malla period to the living traditions of today. Each artifact tells a story of the resilience, creativity, and wisdom of the Karnali people.
Our mission is to serve as the cultural memory of the Karnali region — collecting, preserving, researching, and sharing the heritage of our land with scholars, students, local communities, and visitors from around the world. We believe that understanding the past is essential to building a prosperous future.
We envision expanding our digital archive, launching mobile exhibitions across the Karnali province, and creating immersive educational programs for schools and universities. Our goal is to make the heritage of Panchapuri accessible to everyone — both physically and digitally.
Safeguarding ancient artifacts and cultural knowledge for future generations through scientific conservation.
Creating accessible, inclusive programs that connect the community with their rich historical legacy.
Working alongside local communities to celebrate living traditions and foster cultural identity and pride.
Plan your visit to Panchapuri Museum and walk through five centuries of Karnali history and culture.
